Guidelines for Shift Volunteers

PTA Membership

All parents who volunteer at Chess Club should be members of the PTA. This is required for liability insurance coverage. Spouses of members who will be volunteering should also become members of the PTA.   Chess Club volunteers are NOT required to undergo the Lakeridge Elementary Volunteer training, but they ARE required to fill in a Background Check form - see Peggy Chapman or your Team Manager if you still need to do this.

Shifts

Requested shift times are entered during registration. We do our best to provide you with your top 2 choices but we cannot guarantee any assignments.

Shifts: 3:15 PM to 5:00 PM.
Shifts begin promptly at 3:15 PM.

People need to sign in at the office. Please locate your Team Manager in the gym for instructions. If your child has been assigned to the Pups, meet your Team Manager in the assigned snack room.

Substitutes

Volunteers are responsible for finding their own substitutes if they can't work their shift. Refer to your Team Roster for a list of parents and phone numbers.

Parents are assigned to one or two meetings during the chess club season depending on team size. Parent volunteers assist the Team Manager in maintaining order and tracking down unexpected absences.

Discipline

All parent volunteers are responsible for helping with discipline. During the general session and during each smaller group assignment, parents need to either speak to disruptive children or remove them for five minutes. The best use of the coaches' time is teaching, so we are ensuring this by having the parents assume the disciplinarian role.
